It has been a real rollercoaster ride for us thanks to the global staff shortage and a huge volume of people who have finally been allowed to leave the confines of their homes, but it has been absolutely fabulous nonetheless.
The sun never really made an appearance this summer but our new garden furniture still went down a treat with a majority of customers still preferring to sit outside despite restrictions being lifted.
It has been an absolute joy to see people once again being able to stand at the bar to enjoy their pints – we have loved catching up with so many faces that we haven’t seen for so long!
The kitchen team have been knocking up some absolutely delicious dishes and our new vegetarian menu has gone down a treat. Thanks to Henry Randell we have been stocked up with fresh crab and lobster which of course fly off the specials board sooner than we have put them on!
Due to a lack of staff we have only been able to serve sandwiches on Mondays and Tuesdays and have been unable to provide evening meals on these days – we owe a huge thanks to everyone for being so understanding about this adaption to our opening times. It has been wonderful to see how many people have still supported us on these days, with many of you enjoying the idea of the Anchor becoming a ‘proper boozer’ again for two nights a week!
We had a particularly brilliant weekend when we were asked to cater for a local wedding. It appears being located directly next door to a church is very beneficial for both ourselves and the wedding guests, who managed to squeeze in a substantial number of pints both before and after the ceremony! It was a huge amount of fun and although we were gutted not to be invited to the reception after befriending the entire wedding party, we did get involved on the Sunday evening when the Bride and Groom hired the entire pub and miraculously every single member of staff decided they wanted to work (gatecrash).
"We owe huge thanks to all of our customers who have been so understanding and lovely as we have found our feet in this new post-Covid world"
Our summer however has been tinged with sadness as we lost a dear friend and loyal customer Robin Combe who sadly passed away a few weeks ago. Our condolences are with his wonderful family at this time and we will all miss him dearly.
We owe huge thanks to all of our customers who have been so understanding and lovely as we have found our feet in this new post-Covid world. It has been hard for everyone to adjust, and we are blown away by the kindness that has been shown to us all this summer.
The biggest thanks however goes to the Anchor team who have been absolutely phenomenal over the past phew months. I certainly feel incredibly lucky to be at work every day with some of my very best friends. There have been tears, tantrums and tellings-off, but most importantly there has been endless laughter, memories and stories which will last a lifetime. I think it is fair to say the relationship between our staff members rubs off on our customers and makes the Anchor a very happy environment to both work and dine in – this is reflected in the number of people who return on a daily basis whilst on holiday here in Norfolk, and the locals who spend more time here than anywhere else. Thank you all for making my summer so absolutely brilliant, my face aches from smiling.
The summer is over but we are still just as busy and look forward to continuing to see you all throughout the Autumn and Winter as well, when we will be lighting our fires once again for you to warm your feet, and serving up chowder by the litre!
Love to you all and take care,
